Expandable Cages in Spine Surgery

Recent advances in spine surgery include the use of expandable interbody cages for arthrodesis. Cage design and graft aperture are critical components in the utility of such implants. The advantages and disadvantages of various cages are discussed as well as a review of the current literature. Material choice and graft geometry will also be examined. Case examples will be provided to illustrate salient features.
