Resumen

El conocimiento de los llamados factores o indicadores pronósticos implicados en el traumatismo craneoencefalico grave (TCEG) resulta fundamental a la hora de pronosticar el futuro de los pacientes afectos de esta patología. Esos indicadores constituyen los pilares básicos de las diferentes fórmulas o modelos pronósticos que se utilizan para realizar predicciones en el TCEG. Dichos modelos, por tanto, estarán formados por el conjunto de una serie de variables (indicadores o factores pronósticos) y de unas escalas (escalas pronosticas) que sirven para medir el pronóstico final de estos pacientes.

En este trabajo se resumen, tras analizar exhaustivamente la bibliografía, los principales conocimientos sobre los factores pronósticos relacionados con el TCEG. Estos indicadores se han clasificado en cuatro grupos principales: de índole clínico, radiológico, fisiológico y bioquímico. Además se describen brevemente las escalas pronosticas más utilizadas en el TCEG.

Summary

The knowledge of the so called prognostic factors or indicators involved in severe head injury (SHI) is an issue of great interest to make predictions about the future of patients with this pathology. Those indicators constitute the basic elements of the different prognostic formulas or models carried out in order to make predictions in SHI. The mentioned models, therefore, will be constructed by a group of variables (prognostic indicators or factors) and several scales (prognostic scales) that are useful for measuring the final outcome of these patients

In this paper we resume, after an exhaustive review of the literature, the knowledge about the prognostic factors related to SHI. These indicators have been clas-sified as follows: clinical, radiological, physiological, and biochemical. Moreover, we have briefly described the prognostic scales more commonly used in SHI.
