De julio de 1989 a septiembre de 1995 han ingresado en nuestra Unidad 26 pacientes afectos de una fractura de la apófisis odontoides tipo II. Veintiuno de estos pacientes han sido intervenidos quirúrgicamente mediante un atornillamiento anterior. Después de un seguimiento medio de 20.9 meses, dieciocho pacientes han logrado una consolidación ósea estable de su fractura, habiéndose incorporado todos ellos a su actividad sociofamiliar y laboral habitual. En este trabajo analizamos los distintos métodos de tratamiento existentes para estas fracturas, así como los criterios seguidos en nuestra Unidad para adoptar el tratamiento de osteosíntesis directa de las mismas.
From July 1989 to September 1995, 26 patients were admitted in our Service suffering from type II Odontoid fracture. Twenty one patients have been operated by an anterior cervical approach and screw osteosynthesis. After a mean follow-up of 20.9 months, eighteen patients showed stable osseus consolidation of their fractures, with reincorporation to their sociofamilial and laboral activities. In our report we analyze the different methods for treatment of this type of fracture, and selection criteria used for direct osteosynthesis.
