Summary

In this paper, the capacity of some brief neuropsychological tests to predicting cognitive performance one year after traumatic brain injury is studied. There test, also used after admission were: the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), the Galveston Orientation ad Amnesia Test (GOAT), the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Short Test of Mental Status (STMS). Confirmation of tests relevance would confirmtheir utility of in daily clinical practice for non-neurosychologist professionals to whom there extensive batteries of neuropsyhological test are difficult to apply. Desing: Prospective longitudinal observational. Sample: 100 adult subjects with traumatic brain injury (mild 63%; moderate 27% and severe 10%) whose cognitive performance was measured at two different moments: 1) At admission to Neurosurgery Department an 2) one year afte the injury. Statistical Analysis: Simple regression. The scores obtained by the GCS at the time of admission do not predict cognitive performance as recorded one year after the brain injury. The GOAT and the brief tests MMSE and STMS performed at admission have a strongerpower for predicting the general cognitive situation one year after traumatic brain injury.
