Moyamoya é um termo japones que significa «aspecto esfumado». Este aspecto caracteriza os achados angiográficos em crianças ou adultos com doença cerebrovascular oclusiva crónica progressiva.
A etiologia é desconhecida, tendo sido proposta urna base hereditária por haver maior incidencia em indivíduos com antigénios HLA semelhantes aos da Síndrome de Down e da Neurofibromatose de Von Recklinghausen.
E uma doença frequente no Japão, mas rara na Europa. A chave do diagnóstico é a angiografia.
O tratamento consiste na revascularização cerebral.
Várias técnicas tem sido utilizadas, sendo a encéfalo-duro-artério-sinangiose a mais defendida nas crianças.
Apresentamos um caso de uma criança com 2 anos de idade, tratada por meio desta técnica.
