El empleo de la ecografía intraoperatoria en neurocirugía abre nuevas perspectivas en el conocimiento por parte del neurocirujano del interior de la cavidad craneal o raquimedular durante las intervenciones neuroquirúrgicas, evitando maniobras innecesarias y permitiendo aplicar técnicas habituales en ecografía diagnóstica a los procedimientos neuroquirúrgicos.
Se empleó la ecografía intraoperatoria para realizar biopsias de procesos expansivos intracraneales de diferente naturaleza y localización en 28 pacientes, obteniéndose un diagnóstico histológico en 26 de ellos, sin complicaciones debidas al método. Se discuten los resultados obtenidos, las ventajas del método ecoguiado para la realización de biopsias cerebrales comparándolo con la técnica estereotáxica habitual.
Intraoperative sonography improves the neurosurgeon knowledge about the cranial or rachimedular cavity avoiding unnecessary maneuvers during the surgical procedures.
Intraoperative ultrasound-guided biopsies of intracranial masses from different nature and location were done in 28 patients, achieving histological diagnosis in 26 of them. No method-related complications appeared. The results and the advantages of this procedure, compared to the stereotactic system, are discussed.
