Se presentan doce pacientes portadores de un tumor vertebral maligno, nueve de ellos metastásico, a los que se extirpó el cuerpo vertebral por vía anterior, reemplazándolo por un implante expansible de titanio especialmente diseñado para ello. Se comentan las indicaciones técnicas de la cirugía de las metástasis vertebrales y se discuten las ventajas biomecánicas del pilar intervertebral frente a otros procedimientos de sustitución.
Twelve patients harboring a malignant spinal tumor, nine secondaries, were operated on. In all of them, the vertebral body was excised and substituted by an expandable intervertebral strut build in titanium and designed for this purpouse. The technical indications for surgery in spinal metastasis and the biomechanical advantages of a metallic interbody strut in this cases, are discussed.
