This articIe reviews the present state of the study of neural transplantation in traumatic paraplegia. In spite of ample evidence that under certain experimental conditions, intrameduIlary transplants of fetal nerve tissue can become integrated in the injured spinal cord, constituting a tissular bridge between the proximal and distal segments, to date there are no objective data to indicate that this anatomical reconstruction is accompanied by a significant functional recovery.
