Vascular complications after percutaneous procedures for the control of trigeminal neuralgia are usualIy related to the puncture of arterial or venous structures, which may cause local hematomas or, more rarely, carotid-cavernous fistulae. However, the occurrence of an extracranial arteriovenous fistula, depending on the external carotid artery, is, to our knowledge, an extremely rare event. The authors present the case of a patient who developed such an extracranial complication. The literature is reviewed.
