Se presenta un caso de meningitis aguda por estreptococo Equisimilis en un paciente que presentaba una fístula de líquido cefalorraquídeo 16 años después de haber sido intervenido quirúrgicamente de un hematoma subdural postraumático, en nuestro conocimiento dichas características lo hacen único en la literatura.
Diversos factores pueden ser los responsables de la apertura tardía de la fístula y la meningitis por estreptococo Equisimilis es excepcional. El tratamiento médico específico para curar el cuadro infeccioso y el posterior cierre quirúrgico son el tratamiento de elección.
A case of meningitis caused by Streptococus Equisimilis and cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea, in which the head trauma occurred 16 years before, is presented. To the best of the author's knowledge this is the first case reported with such characteristics.
Several precipitating factors could be responsible for the unusually late reopening of the fistula Streptococci equisimilis is an uncommon cause of the bacteremia. An appropriate antimicobrial therapy against S. Equisimilis followed by surgical dural repair were performed.
