Summary

Extradural hematomas of the posterior fossa are much less frequent than supratentorial hematomas.

The authors report a series of eight patients with posterior fossa epidural hematomas. Computed tomography scans were diagnostic of a posterior fossa epidural hematoma in all cases. All the patients underwent suboccipital craniectomy with good recovery.

The authors emphasize the importance of CT scan in determining a more precise diagnosis and confirm that an early operation is the main factor influencing the final outcome.
