Metástasis cerebrales del ependimoma medular: A propósito de tres casos

Resumen

Presentamos tres niños diagnosticados de ependimomas medulares que a lo largo de su evolución metastatizaron a nivel intracraneal. Se practicó cirugía parcial en todos. El tumor fue mixopapilar en dos casos y anaplásico en el restante. El diagnóstico se realizó mediante TAC y RNM entre los tres meses y los cuatro años de la cirugía inicial. No se encontró diseminación extraneural. Dos pacientes fallecieron y otro está sin evidencia de enfermedad tras diez años de seguimiento. Se revisa la literatura y se discuten las características clínicas, histológicas y terapéuticas de los casos.

Summary

Three children with intracranial seeding of spinal ependymoma were retrospectively reviewed. Surgical resection was partial. The tumor was histologicaly verified as myxopapillary (two cases) and anaplasic ependymoma (one case). Diagnosis was made by CT and MRI between three months and four years after primary treatment. No extraneural tumor was found. Two patients died and the other is living without evidence of disease 10 years after diagnosis. The literature is reviewed and the clinical, histological and therapeutical features are discused.
