The authors review the new possibilities of stereotactic surgery for Parkinson's Disease according with current pathophysiological knowledge of the Basal Ganglia. The thalamus, globus pallidus and subthalamic nucleus are considered as the most important surgical targets for future surgical approaches. The value of electrophysiological recording and the new surgical techniques are analyzed in this review article.
