Resumen

Los quemodectomas o paragangliomas no cromafines son tumores poco frecuentes. Se presentan cuatro casos (tres, localizados en el glomus yugular y uno en glomus carotídeo).

El diagnóstico se llevó a cabo a través del cuadro clínico y de los medios complementarios existentes según la época en la que fueron vistos: en un caso antiguo, con el concurso de la radiología convencional y la angiografía cerebral; en los restantes, recientes, con TC, RM y panangiografía digital.

El tratamiento realizado fue: solamente cirugía en dos casos; embolización y cirugía en otro. En el cuarto caso, embolización y radioterapia por negarse el paciente al tratamiento quirúrgico.

Esta diversidad de procederes diagnósticos y terapéuticos sirven de base para un análisis de la situación actual de la problemática de los quemodectomas.

Summary

Chemodectomas, or nonchromaffin paragangliomas are rare tumors. We present 4 cases (three of the glomus jugulare and one of the carotid body).

Diagnosis was carried out by clinic symptoms and complementary tests, in accordance with the moment of the study: in one case, by X-Ray films and cerebral angiography; in the others, by CT, MRI and digital angiography.

Treatment was: in two cases, only surgery; embolization and surgery in other. In the last case, embolization and radiotherapy because the patient refused surgery.

The diversity of diagnostic and therapeutical methods concerning management of chemodectomas, lead us to present these cases and discuss these methods.
