Los quistes aracnoideos intracraneales son lesiones expansivas de naturaleza benigna características de la infancia, pero que pueden presentarse en el adulto e incluso en el anciano. Su localización más habitual es la fosa media con una incidencia dos veces mayor en el hemisferio izquierdo. La localización interhemisférica en el adulto es excepcional y solamente se han publicado 6 casos sintomáticos en la literatura.
Presentamos el caso de una paciente de edad avanzada con cefalea y alteraciones del comportamiento secundarias a un quiste aracnoideo de cisura interhemisférica.
Realizamos una revisión sobre los casos publicados anteriormente y analizamos las formas de presentación, y patogenia de esta patología en el anciano.
Intracraneal arachnoid cysts are space-occupying benign lesions. Although congenital forms are found in younger patients, they can be diagnosed in adults and aged patients.
The midde cranial fossa is the most common location, left sided lesions are more frequent. Interhemispheric cysts in adults are very rare and only six cases have been previously reported.
We present a case of a large interhemispheric cyst in a old woman who presented a history of headache and dementia.
The authors review the cases previously reported and discuss the pathogenesis and management of symptomatic interhemispheric arachnoid cysts in the elderly.
