Successful stereotactic aspiration of a colloid cyst of the third ventricle is reported. The risks of this therapeutic method are lesser than those associated with open surgical approaches. The viscosity of the colloid material and the displacement of the cyst away from the aspiration needle are the main difficulties for the stereotactic evacuation of these tumors. A spiral biopsy needle to puncture the cyst wall, and a large cannula to aspirate the intracyst material can contribute to overcome those problems. The advantages of this stereotactic procedure are discussed.
