The authors report a unique case of a 44-year-old man who presented with a short history of right cruralgia and sudden episodes of weakness in both lower limbs; neurological examination depicted superficial hypoesthesia with an upper level of T9 and right Babinski sign. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a large central disc herniation at the T11-T12 level. After surgical removal of the herniated disc, all the clinical symptoms and signs cleared. The pain production mechanism is discussed.
