Three cases of Chronic Encapsulated Intracerebral Hematoma ocurring in patients who were preoperatively diagnosed of brain tumour are described.
The patients aged 18, 19 and 26 years respectively, were operated upon by using a stereotactic technique (1 case) or craniotomy (2 cases). A biopsy of the hematoma capsule performed in all cases showed an hematoma surrounded by fibrous and granulation tissue without signs of tumor or vascular malformation.
All patients improved after surgery and showed a complete clinical recovery.
Control CT scan and MR studies performed in two patients, who were followed for 18 months and 4 years respectively, showed a residuallesion of unknown histological nature.
