Se presenta un caso de un niño de 2 años con un quiste hidatídico cerebeloso que se rompió durante la extirpación quirúrgica, diseminándose el líquido hidatídico por el campo quirúrgico. En el postoperatorio inmediato se inició tratamiento con Albendazol (15mg/Kg/día en 3 ciclos de 28 días) sin presentar recidivas en 14 meses de seguimiento.

Se revisan los resultados del tratamiento con AIbendazol en la hidatidosis cerebral y se resalta la importancia de un diagnóstico preoperatorio a fin de iniciar el tratamiento médico antes de la cirugía. Los datos actualmente disponibles sugieren que el Albendazol complementa el tratamiento quirúrgico de la hidatidosis cerebral, previniendo las siembras en caso de ruptura accidental del quiste durante la cirugía y permite plantearse alternativa de la punción aspiración del quiste, en los casos en que la extirpación en bloque no sea posible.

We report the case of a 2 year-old-child who presented a cerebellar hydatid cyst that ruptured during surgical excision and showed spillage of the cyst contents. He was immediately treated with Albendazole, 15mg/Kg/day for 3 cycles of 28 days. During 14 months of follow up he has not shown recurrence.

We review the results of the treatment with Albendazole in cerebral hydatidosis and emphasize the importance of preoperative diagnosis to treat the patient with the drug before operation. Available data suggest that Albendazole may complement surgical treatment of cerebral hydatidosis, and prevents seeding when accidental rupture of the cyst occurs during surgery, permiting the puncture-aspiration of the cyst prior to its excision during surgery, when an “in bloc” excision cannot be done.
